SETTLING INTO SPRING: WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER

SETTLING INTO SPRING: WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER

Spring is a time of transition. There is more sunshine and blue skies, the chill in the air is replaced by a welcome breeze, and we find ourselves changing out of heavy coats to warm sweaters.

This seasonal transition also brings with it a higher rate of sharing public spaces as we leave the cosy comfort of our homes to enjoy the great outdoors. We find ourselves decluttering to create more space for forecasted warm days, and we are keen to spend more time sharing our homes with our loved ones.

Some may find the flurry of activity associated with this transition a bit overwhelming, becoming unsure of how they can set themselves up for an enjoyable summer.

I have compiled a few points to help anyone who identifies with being in such a position mindfully guarantee success in the season to come. They are as follows:

  • Prepare for the seasonal change

With warmer and busier days ahead, it is important to intentionally prepare for the season ahead. This might mean going through your wardrobe and ensuring you have all the appropriate pieces for your most common activities. This could look like wearing warm pastels to work or to run your daily errands, cleaning out your picnic basket for any outdoor meals, and researching the public parks and amenities that are available for use.

  • Revise the rules of engagement

Many of us like to mark the warmer weather by taking a hike, picnicking with our loved ones, or simply opening the windows to allow fresh air into our homes. As we do so, let us be mindful to respect the nature around us by sticking to marked paths, and refraining from plucking flowers as we walk along. This both helps us keep safe and maintain the beauty of areas others will want to explore as well. If at home with the windows open, consider playing music at a reasonable level and keeping conversations at respectful tones so the neighbours can enjoy their time as well.

  • Manage your spring cleaning

Springtime is when we traditionally “spring clean” our homes, moving pieces of furniture, getting rid of our ‘extra’ belongings, and creating space for the warm weather fun. It is respectful to ensure that anything donated is in a condition we would want to use it in, so anyone who chooses to add it to their home can enjoy it at its full value. Make quick changes so your home is ready to host. Consider a tablecloth with a floral border, or a box of spring treats ready to offer guests as they enter your home. This sets you up for a sustained calm spring and summer in the months ahead.

Transitioning from winter to spring does not have to be daunting. By following these simple actions, you will set yourself up for an enjoyable spring as indulgent as the summer to follow.
